How good are you really at changing your thinking to keep up with a world that is fast changing? What worked yesterday, won't necessarily work today or in the future.
Since Christmas, I have been reading all Seth Godin's books and he challenges us by saying 'small is the new big'.
Being big is no longer an advantage, in fact it is the opposite. If you want to be big, act small.
Four Tips on How to be a Change Junkie
1. Move the furniture around and change something in your office once a month.
2. Drive home in a different direction.
3. Buy magazines and books on topics you have never read before (stretch your mind).
4. For the next week, eat a new food every day.
By moving out of your dis-comfort zone, it will make it easier for you to view everything in 2010 as an opportunity. Three Thought Provoking Questions for February
1. How often do you say 'how grateful I am for the life I have'?
2. What do you comment on most, people's mistakes, or their achievements?
3. How do you measure your success? The money you have in the bank or the quality of your friendships? Six Tips on Culture Change
1. Get the culture of your company right and everything else will follow.
2. Brand and culture are the two sides of the same coin.
3. Your brand is not 100% in your control, it's in the mind of your customers.
4. Every day keep asking why?
5. When employees are engaged, customers are engaged.
6. If you don't live up to the core values of your company, they are valueless. Merely a plaque on the wall of your office. Five Tips on How to Encourage People
1. Make it a habit to praise someone at least once a day.
2. Say thank you more often.
3. Challenge staff and encourage them to go the extra mile.
4. Recognise progress and effort.
5. Think differently about how you can praise someone.
- send an email
- send a thank you card
- buy a small gift
- send a text
All the above tips might seem very simplistic, if so, how often do you encourage people at work, home and in the community? Simple works and can have a huge impact on people's lives.
I was speaking at a conference in January and a lady whom I had not seen for over five years came up to say hello. She mentioned that I had sent her a motivational card over five years ago and that it was still on her desk today. I didn't know, but at that time she had major personal issues in her home life and the card arrived when she was feeling really low.
The message on the card was 'NOTHING IS A WASTE OF TIME, IF YOU USE THE EXPERIENCE WISELY'.
Who could you send a card to today?
For the month of February, I encourage you to raise your thinking, encourage your staff and everyone you meet. Know you have made a real difference by taking the initiative to think differently about the way you work and live in the world.
Thank you to all the women who have booked to attend the International Women's Day event on Monday 8th March. I personally look forward to working with you all and helping you create your blue print for the future.
Blessings
